Evening Reception with Jackie Huba aka Lady Trinity
We all want to be fabulous and confident. But too often we let fear and self-doubt derail us from pursuing our passions and accomplishing our biggest goals. This was the situation bestselling author Jackie Huba found herself in. At the lowest point in her life she serendipitously stumbled upon the wonderful world of drag queens, and to her surprise, she found them inspiring and energizing. They were supremely confident, utterly fearless, strong, powerful, and unabashedly and completely themselves—no apologies, no compromises. So she immersed herself in the world of drag, eventually becoming a female drag queen herself, aka Lady Trinity.
Jackie’s keynote is based on her latest book, Fiercely You: Be Fabulous and Confidence By Thinking Like a Drag Queen. The RuPaul-endorsed book is a creative, playful approach to the serious problems that women face regarding confidence and risk-taking. Drawing on her own experiences doing drag and interviews with the world’s top drag queens, Jackie will share lessons from drag queens that will help you ignore criticism and live life more fearlessly. Grab your tiara, bling and most fabulous make up for an hour focused on becoming fiercely you.
At the Evening Reception we will also be highlighting the official cocktail/mocktail and cookie of The Wave. Here is a sneak preview of both.
Official Cookie: Roons
Roons are delicious coconut macaroons, made by hand & dipped in real chocolate. Roons are grain and gluten free and all chocolate is specially made by Guittard. One bite and you’ll be pleasantly addicted!
Roons was established in 2010, in a Napa Valley, CA kitchen. It started out as a baking project to pass the day with my very small humans, but turned into an epicurean adventure of epic proportion. To be honest, the kiddos didn’t get to lick many wooden spoons that day (I think they ended up in front of Dora The Explorer) but that’s a small price to pay for finding my passion – and dedicating myself to perfecting these treats for years to come, in order to share them with the world.
Official Cocktail/Mocktail: The Autumn Wave
Ingredients & Recipe
- 2 oz Gin
- 2 oz Apple Cider
- .5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
- .5 oz Canadian Maple simple syrup (equal parts water & maple syrup, heated or shaken until dissolved)
- 1 pinch Cinnamon
- 1 dash Bitters (add an extra dash or two if you are omitting the gin)
- Garnish: Twist Lemon
- Glass: Coupe
Add all ingredients to an ice-filled shaker and shake vigorously. Double-strain into a 5.5-ounce coupe and garnish with an expressed lemon twist.
Adapted by Jennifer LeBlanc
This cocktail is one of my favorites for a fall cocktail with flavors of apple cider, cinnamon, maple and gin. It can also easily be made into a mocktail with a few substitutions.
